Pacific Harbour

Pacific Harbour Fiji is sort of a mini metropolis located on the south coast of Viti Levu about 50km west of Suva. A long stretch of uninterrupted beach overlooks Beqa (pronounced Beng-a) Passage with Beqa Island and Lagoon in the distance. Resorts on this coastline are not as prolific as the Coral Coast further west and that’s part of the attraction.

Pacific Harbour is a good base from which to explore the mountainous hinterland of Viti Levu with the Capital Suva a leisurely day trip away. It’s easy enough to hire a car and drive yourself or you could arrange a car with your own driver from one of the resorts. Public buses also ply coastal Queens Road if you want to travel like the locals do.

The south coast of Viti Levu has plenty of fabulous dive sites but if you want to increase your adrenalin levels, shark diving is on offer at the Shark Reef Marine Reserve. Black and white tip reef sharks, tawny nurse, bull, tiger and the odd hammerhead are all regular visitors to shark-feeding outlets along the reef. It’s an experience you won’t forget!

But perhaps you’re not a water baby and prefer land-bound adventures. Strap yourself onto a zip line for exhilarating forest bound action that’s easy on the environment. Hurtling through the forest canopy attached to a tightly strung zip lines 60m above the forest floor should get the blood pumping. Golfers you’re not forgotten either with the Pearl Championship Fiji Golf Course & Country Club fairways winding through rainforest and residential canals, amongst other water hazards.

Frigates Passage on the outer edge of Beqa Lagoon is a famous surf break that regularly appears on Fiji’s Top 3 Surf break lists. (Cloudbreak and Restaurants’ in the Mamanuca Islands being the other 2) The break which attracts world class surfers and is only accessible by boat is not far from Royal Davui Island. Royal Davui itself is home to an exclusive luxury resort for adults only overlooking the azure waters of Beqa Lagoon.
