Fiji Airways Unveils Upgraded Economy Class and Business Class “Fijian-Style” Catering

Also Announces Business Class Product Upgrades Coming Onboard Soon

Fiji Airways, Fiji’s National Airline, has today unveiled a complete overhaul of its Economy Class meals across its international network and a refresh of its Business Class dining with the introduction of a Signature Dish. The Signature Dish has been inspired by renowned Fiji-based Chef Lance Seeto, the Executive Chef of Castaway Island Resort and preeminent Fijian culinary expert in collaboration with other Fijian Chefs.  Members of the Fiji Chefs Association have also been invited to work with the airline on future menu cycles to ensure that the food served onboard is Fijian inspired.

The airline announced the new catering concepts in the Fijian Capital Suva today, as part of a suite of changes to its onboard products which include Inflight Entertainment, Inflight Duty Free and Inflight Magazine, which will be rolled out in stages. 

Stefan Pichler, Fiji Airways’ Managing Director & CEO commented: “As we continue to make headway towards our goal of becoming a leading global boutique airline, addressing our inflight experience, especially the catering, has been a key priority. It has taken a few months of consolidating feedback from our valuable guests, benchmarking and testing to get here, and we’re delighted to roll out these great changes now.”

Our on-board catering, especially on the short and medium haul sectors attracted their fair share of negative feedback since introduction, and we have been taking it all into account. The new catering offers the choice and style of meals that our guests desire.”

The airline has now removed its previous boxed-presentation concept and most of the burger and wrap selections. It will re-introduce tray service with hot meals in its Economy Class on flights to Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific (medium haul services) and a more substantial and higher quality snack on short haul. Long haul flights to Los Angeles and Hong Kong will see two hot meals in Economy Class tailored to the time of day.

The new Economy Class menu has been introduced immediately on all international flights for Fiji Airways and its subsidiary Fiji Link. The Chef Lance Seeto Fijian inspired

Business Class Signature dish which will feature top quality Fijian produce and will be launched on-board on September 1st.

Chef Lance Seeto commented: “I’m delighted to part of this move by Fiji Airways to improve the standard of inflight catering and give advice and guidance for the introduction of Business Class Signature Dish. I’m passionate about Fijian food and ingredients and extremely pleased that the National Airline is making Fijian cuisine a prominent feature in its Business Cabin in particular.”

The Business Class menu and service elements, like the Yadra Vinaka sleeper service and an ‘a la carte’ dining option have all been upgraded for premium travellers. A Signature Welcome Cocktail and Mocktail will also be introduced in partnership with Fiji Rum, along with a hors d'oeuvre service and specially selected wines. The linen tray set-up will be complemented by personalised attention and restaurant-style service for Business Class Guests.

These Business Class changes also come into effect on September 1st, 2014.
Mr. Pichler added: “Our on-board crews are renowned for their unique Fijian hospitality and friendliness, much like the people and country we represent. Now we’ve given them the tools to take it to the next level and create a truly world-class on-board “Fijian-style” experience for our guests across travel classes. To put it simply, our on board experience will be truly Fijian and world class!”
