Fiji Airways Breaks Ground At New Fiji Aviation Academy Site

Fiji Airways, Fiji’s National Airline, today held a groundbreaking ceremony in Nadi, Fiji for its landmark project – the Fiji Aviation Academy. The groundbreaking ceremony, which coincided with International Civil Aviation Day 2017, was officiated by Fijian Attorney General and Minister responsible for Civil Aviation, the Honourable Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum. The USD 45 million facility will open by March 2019. As part of Phase 1 of the project, the Academy will house two CAE Full Flight Simulators for Boeing 737 MAX and Airbus A330 aircraft.

Speaking at the event, Fiji Airways Managing Director and CEO Mr. Andre Viljoen hailed the occasion as yet another milestone for the airline: “In just 15 short months, Fiji Airways and Fiji will have a world class aviation training facility, offering the highest standards of pilot training in the world. It’s part of the continued growth of Fiji Airways and our contribution to Fiji.”

He added: “With the two Full Flight Simulators, we will be able to train our pilots right here in Fiji. When Phase 2 of the project is implemented, a Flight School will be established at the Academy, offering ab-initio training for cadet pilots right through to qualification. It allows Fijians pursuing a career in flying to undertake world class end-to-end pilot training right here at home. Over the long-term, it helps us localise our pilot workforce, which is great for Fiji Airways and Fiji.”

The Fiji Aviation Academy building is spread out over 2600 sq. metres at Namaka, Nadi, using the very latest construction and green energy design. It will feature three simulator bays, other Flight Simulator Training Devices for various states of pilot learning, briefing rooms, multimedia rooms, along with training, workshop and services centres. It will also house ground training facilities for a Flight School (Phase 2) and a Cabin Crew Training Facility (Phase 3).
