Fiji Airways Appoints Sharun Ali as New Head of Safety & Security

Wednesday, 11 December 2013: Fiji Airways has announced the appointment of its new Head of Safety and Security.

Sharun Ali, a Manager from within the Department has been promoted to head the entire Safety and Security operations across its global operations as Senior Manager Safety and Security.

The appointment was made after an exhaustive search both internally and externally.

Based at its Head Office in Nadi, Ali now has overall responsibility for all Safety and Security activities of Fiji Airways, as well as leading all investigations and ensuring regulatory compliance across the airline’s global operations.

Stefan Pichler, Fiji Airways Managing Director and CEO commented on Ali’s appointment: “We’re delighted with the appointment of Sharun to what is a crucial role within the airline. Without Safety and Security, no flights can happen.”

“After going through a number of good applications, we have determined that he is best suited for this job. In addition, he is an experienced Fijian professional who has worked his way up to management over a number of years.”

He added: “As I’ve said before, we’re going to ensure that wherever possible, Fijians are given job opportunities and clear career progression here at Fiji Airways. The fact that Sharun has been entrusted to this very critical position demonstrates the capability of Fijians as aviation professionals.”

The Head of Safety and Security position at Fiji Airways was previously held by an American expatriate.

Originally from Lautoka, Ali has over 17 years of experience with Fiji Airways, and has worked as Flight Attendant and Quality Auditor, before moving in various manager roles with the airline’s Safety and Security Department.

A fully trained IATA Operational Safety Auditor, Ali holds numerous IATA Diplomas in Airline Quality Management, Safety Management and Airline Operations. He also hold an MBA (General Management) and is currently pursuing a Masters in Quality Systems.

The appointment, which reports directly to the Managing Director and CEO, is effective immediately.
