Fiji Airways Repatriation Flights: January 2021

Fiji Airways will operate the following repatriation flights in January 2021 allowing citizens as well as approved non-citizens to travel to their respective destinations.

Please note, there are no change fees, however fare differences may apply.

Guests holding unused Fiji Airways’ tickets are able to book themselves on these flights by contacting Fiji Airways Reservations. Please note that limited seats are available on all repatriation flights, per Government directives. 

Fiji Airways’ international flights operate under the airline’s Travel Ready programme, which is designed for air travel in a COVID-19 world. Travel Ready has numerous precautions and medical safeguards in place to protect customers and staff alike. Please familiarise yourself with our Travel Ready Programme here, and find out all the changes you can expect when flying with Fiji Airways. These actions are in place for your safety and wellbeing. 

Travel Ready requires customers to bring their own facemasks with them when they come to the airport, practice physical distancing in queues and public seating areas, and undergo regular temperature-screening (along with other COVID-symptoms’ screening). Please ensure you are ready for your flight, to avoid inconvenience at the airport. 

Countries have strict entry and quarantine requirements in place for all travellers. Guests are requested to ensure they understand and comply with these. Some requirements are listed below, however, it remains the responsibility of travellers to ensure they satisfy all requirements of the destination country.

Important Information for Travellers to Fiji

The Fijian Government has set out specific guidelines for entry into Fiji at this time. Please visit this Government website for all relevant information and entry requirements. Only Fiji citizens (Fijian passport holders) are able to enter Fiji at this time. Non-Fijian citizens (those that do not hold a Fijian passport but have a special permit) require approval from the Office of the Prime Minister for entry into Fiji. Contact the Office of the Prime Minister by emailing borderrequest@immi.gov.fj.  Non-Fijian citizens must have written permission from the Fijian Government before being accepted on the flight. 

All arriving travellers must have documented proof of a negative PCR COVID-19 Test. This must be by way of a swab test, which is taken no earlier than 72 hours prior to departure date. See details of accepted tests here.

Specifically for travellers coming from Brisbane to Fiji, the following facilities in Queensland carry out tests per Fijian Government requirements:

Other tests from Government facilities may also be accepted. 

All arriving travellers must got into mandatory quarantine upon arrival at a Fijian Government-selected facility for 14-days. They will be unable to go to their homes or residences. All arriving travellers will also be tested for COVID-19 upon arrival into Fiji and on Day 12 of their quarantine.

Fijian citizens 

  • Fijians citizens do not have to pay for quarantine or for COVID-19 tests in Fiji
  • Quarantine is at Fijian Government approved and managed hotels
  • Access to a higher end accommodation is possible, but must be paid for by the requesting guest in its entirety. A request can be made by emailing the Fiji COVID Risk Mitigation Taskforce at crmt@govnet.gov.fj.

Non-Fijian Citizens 

  • Non-citizens will bear the cost of quarantine in Fiji. Information on quarantine charges and locations can be requested by emailing airport@health.gov.fj
  • Non-citizens will bear costs of all COVID-19 tests done in Fiji. A COVID-19 Test will cost $300 (FJD) at payable in cash only at the Hotel Quarantine. Non-citizens are encouraged to convert their currency to Fijian dollars before they arrive or withdraw from ATMs available at Nadi International Airport.
  • Per the directive of authorities, transit passengers cannot be uplifted on repatriation flights to Fiji.

Important Information for Travellers to Australia

COVID-19 (PCR) Test

From 22 January 2021, if you are travelling to or transiting through Australia you must provide evidence of a negative COVID-19 (PCR) test to your airline, taken 72 hours or less before your scheduled departure.

If you do not have evidence of a negative COVID-19 (PCR) test, you should not go to the airport as your airline will not allow you to board the aircraft. 

Masks must be worn on all international flights, including at airports.

Entry to Australia

Only Australian citizens and returning permanent residents and their immediate family members are permitted to enter Australia without an exemption until further notice.

  • Travellers who meet exemption criteria or have a compassionate or compelling reason to enter Australia can apply to the Australian authorities for an exemption
  • For information on the exemption categories, application form and documentation required, see the Department of Home Affairs website
  • The Department of Home Affairs is experiencing high levels of demand for exemptions and there is no guarantee of either the timing of a decision or the outcome. You should make your application at least four weeks but not more than three months in advance of travel and provide full supporting documentation.

Quarantine Arrangements

All international travellers entering Australia need to undertake a mandatory 14-day quarantine at a designated facility (for example a hotel) at their port of arrival. This is arranged by individual State and Territory governments.

New South Wales (NSW) and Queensland (QLD) have introduced charges for mandatory quarantine and other requirements (testing and screening) for all arriving travellers:

  • NSW: please see all relevant details here, including details on quarantine charges on the NSW Government website. The charge for quarantine in NSW is $3,000 (AUD) per adult, with further charges for additional adults and children.   • QLD: please see rules around Queensland entry requirements can be found here. Information on mandatory quarantine and costs for arriving passengers is available here. The charge for quarantine in QLD is $2,800 (AUD) per adult, with further charges for additional adults and children.

Australian authorities have also provided an ‘Information for international travellers fact sheet’ to all travellers on arrival in Australia. This provides information on current requirements.

Transiting Australia

The Department of Home Affairs website sets out information on transiting Australia, including on transit visas. There are currently restrictions on transits due to coronavirus.

You are able to transit through Australia if transiting for 8 hours or less and you have evidence of onward international travel. Fiji Airways passengers transiting through Sydney on this flight will have their bags checked through to their onward destination. They will not have access to their checked-in luggage in Sydney.

Restrictions on Australian citizens and permanent residents planning to depart Australia

Australian Citizens and Australian Permanent Residents require permission (special exemption) from the Australian Government to leave Australia. Only those who are granted an exemption will be allowed to depart Australia. For more details and links for exemption applications, please click here.

Important Information for Travellers to New Zealand

Entry to New Zealand

Only the following are permitted to enter New Zealand without an exemption until further notice;   

  • a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident
  • a resident with valid travel conditions, unless you got a resident visa outside New Zealand and you have never used it to travel here
  • a partner or dependent child of a New Zealand citizen or resident, and your visa is based on this relationship
  • a diplomat who holds a post in New Zealand
  • Australian citizens or permanent residents ordinarily resident in New Zealand

Resident visa holders

  • Travel conditions of all other resident visas must be valid for the holder to enter New Zealand.
  • Your resident visa must have been granted:
  • when you were in New Zealand, or
  • when you were offshore but you have used it to travel to New Zealand previously, or
  • because you previously held a resident visa while in New Zealand 
  • *A dependent child must be younger than 20 if they have a temporary visa, or younger than 25 if they have a resident visa.

Managed isolation and quarantine

Travellers to New Zealand from all countries are tested for COVID-19 and a 14-day managed quarantine or isolation is mandatory.

All travellers are legally required to obtain a Managed Isolation Allocation system voucher confirming their place in a managed isolation facility before boarding a flight

Important Information for Travellers to the United States

A number of travel restrictions apply to persons travelling to the United States. Please visit this website from the United States Centres for Disease Control (CDC) to find out whether your entry to the US is restricted: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/travelers/from-other-countries.html .

Effective January 26, 2021, all arriving passengers to the United States are required to have proof of a negative COVID-19 test (PCR or antigen test) taken 72-hours prior to scheduled departure to the US, or documentation of having recovered from COVID-19. Children under 2 are exempt from this requirement. Transiting passengers are subject to the same requirements, and their entire journey must be on a single ticket. Details on the required tests can be found here . In Fiji, a COVID-19 test can be conducted at Nadi Hospital or at the Ministry of Health and Medical Services’ Namosi House facility on Amy Street in Toorak, Suva.

All passengers travelling to or transiting through the United States must complete a Passenger Attestation Form, which must be presented at check-in along with their negative COVID test results. This form can be found here .

Failure to meet all United States’ entry requirements will result in refusal of carriage.

Additionally, various states in the US have additional requirements for international arriving passengers. These may include home isolation or facemask requirements, and fines and penalties may apply for those failing to comply. Please ensure you comply with each of these requirements, as stated by the arrival airports:

Important Information for Travellers to Hong Kong

Only Hong Kong residents are allowed to enter Hong Kong at this time. 

A negative PCR COVID-19 Test is required for all arriving passengers in Hong Kong. Passengers wishing to take this flight to Hong Kong on 17 November are able to get their negative PCR COVID-19 Test done at Nadi Hospital (Swab Bay) on Sunday 15 November, between 10.00am and 12 noon. This is to facilitate results in time for the flight.

Alternatively, for passengers without a negative PCR COVID-19 Test are able to undergo a deep throat saliva test upon arrival, and wait to receive their results at Hong Kong International Airport (which may take up to 3 hours).

Transit / Transfers

From Nadi to other destinations via Hong Kong:

  • No transits are permitted to Mainland China
  • Transits to other ports by connecting on other airlines are permitted, on the condition that the passengers are booked under the same air ticket (separate tickets are not allowed) and the passengers have been checked through with both boarding passes printed and baggage tagged-through to final destination. Both operating airlines will undertake all required pre-flight checking and verification. The layover time for transiting passengers must not exceed 24 hours.

 From other cities to Nadi via Hong Kong:

  • Allowed for flights operated by different airline groups, on the condition that the passengers are booked under the same air ticket (separate tickets are not allowed) and the passengers have been checked through with both boarding passes printed and baggage tagged-through to final destination. Both operating airlines will undertake all required pre-flight checking and verification. The layover time for transiting passengers must not exceed 24 hours.
  • There are NO Transfer check-in services available at Hong Kong International Airport.

Customers will be denied boarding if they are unable to comply with all Hong Kong requirements for arriving passengers.
