Andre Viljoen
Managing Director & CEO

Andre Viljoen, born in South Africa, has 33 years of seasoned airline experience and joined Fiji Airways as Managing Director and Chief Executive officer in October 2015. He holds an Honours Degree in Commerce and is a Chartered Accountant.

He started his airline career with Comair British Airways in South Africa in the 1980’s as Financial Manager and soon grew to the position of Group Financial and Commercial Director, which he held for more than 10 years. He played an instrumental role in elevating Comair from a small regional airline to becoming South African Airways principal domestic competitor flying the British Airways brand.

He then went on in 1992 to join South African Express Airways, the largest regional airline in South Africa, as Chief Operating Officer. He devised and led a turnaround program to restore the airline back to profitability and to expand its fleet to include regional jets.

In 1995, he joined South African Airways, South Africa’s National Airline, as Chief Financial Officer and took over as President and Chief Executive Officer in 2000 until 2005. He implemented an aggressive transformation program known as “Perfecting the Basics” which restored the airline back to profitability by 2002. The transformation program also earned the airline a Skytrax 4 Star Rating, as well as many travel awards such as “The Leading Airline to Africa”.

He then went on to join the tour operator group Cullinan Holdings as Chief Executive Officer from 2006. The group is well known for its travel brands Thomson Holidays, Thomson Tours and Pentravel.

In 2009, he joined Air Mauritius, Mauritius’ National Airline, initially as Chief Financial Officer and then from 2010 as Chief Executive Officer. In 2012, he launched a successful turnaround program known as the “7 Step Recovery Plan”. The plan was focused on re-balancing the company’s network, improving revenue management and commercial, as well as re-fleeting with new generation aircraft. The plan restored the airline back to profitability by 2014 and it has ordered 6 Airbus A350-900 new generation aircraft to replace its aged fleet of Airbus A340-300’s. The service quality improvement program implemented as part of the 7 Step Recovery Plan has earned Air Mauritius the Skytrax 4 Star Rating, as well as the travel award of “Leading Airline to the Indian Ocean”.

 

Captain Paul Doherty
Chief Operating Officer

Captain Paul Doherty is the Chief Operating Officer responsible for Engineering, Cargo, Airports and Flight Operations at Fiji Airways. Captain Doherty joined the airline in March 2017 as Executive General Manager responsible for Organisational Development and appointed to his current role in February 2018. He has over 25 years in High Capacity Airlines as a Pilot, Captain and Head of Flight Operations for a major Australian-based airline. Captain Doherty has been a Captain operating Fokker 28’s, Boeing 737 Classics and NGs as well as Boeing 777-300ER aircraft on Flight Operations from short haul to international long-haul and has held a variety of Senior Management positions in Flight Operations including Post-Holder roles for two airlines. Captain Doherty has an MBA and is currently an Adjunct Professor at Griffith University. He is married with two children and enjoys playing guitar as well as scuba diving.

 

Naomi Vuibureta
Chief Financial Officer

Naomi made history when she was appointed the first Fijian women to hold the substantive CFO position for the Fiji Airways Group in January 2020. Naomi joined Fiji Airways in 2012 as Senior Manager Financial Planning, and rose through the ranks to become Chief Financial Officer. She has over 15 years of accounting and management experience, commencing as an auditor with KPMG Suva, moving onto Financial Controller positions in Fiji Broadcasting Corporation Limited, Digicel (Fiji) Ltd and Digicel (Vanuatu) Ltd.

Ms. Vuibureta is a CPA (Australia) qualified accountant and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting & Financial Management and Economics from the University of the South Pacific.

 

Shaenaz Voss
Executive General Manager, Customer Experience, Corporate Affairs and Fiji Link

Shaenaz was appointed to the position in November 2015, an advancement to her previous role as General Manager Industry, International and Government Affairs. She was the former General Manager of Fiji Link, Fiji Airways’ domestic subsidiary. She was Fiji’s first woman general manager of an airline when she took up that role in May 2011. Prior to that, Shaenaz was General Manager Guest Services, Airports & Inflight for the airline. Shaenaz holds more than 20 years of commercial and operational management experience in the aviation, tourism and service industries. A highlight of her career was her winning the Royal Aeronautical Society of New Zealand’s Douglas Patterson Award for Achievement in Aviation Management for the South Pacific in 1995. In 2013, Shaenaz was awarded the title of Fiji’s Executive Woman of the Year, at the 2013 annual Fiji Women in Business Awards.

 

Gordon Penfold
Executive General Manager, Shared Business Services

Gordon was appointed to this position in January 2020, looking after key functions of People and Performance, Information Technology and Procurement for the Fiji Airways Group. He joined Fiji Airways in 2016 from Etihad Aviation Group where he held the role of Senior Vice President of Information Technology. He previously held executive and senior management roles at British Airways, Fujitsu Inc. and STC-ICL Ltd, in the course of which he undertook extensive periods of work in Europe, Japan and North America, and enjoyed long-term residence in South Africa, Hong Kong, Malaysia and the United Arab Emirates. Gordon brings with him over thirty years of IT experience primarily in the aviation sector, and has spent the past 20 years working in the airline industry. Outside of Aviation, he has worked in international IT Services in the Telecommunications and Financial sectors, and as a defence contractor. Gordon has a strong technical background and a deep understanding of airline commercial systems, resource management, and airline and airport operations. He holds an Honours degree in Economics and Law and undertook postgraduate studies in Computer Science.

 

Thomas Robinson
Executive General Manager, Engineering

Thomas is an aircraft Engineer by profession and was appointed Executive General Manager, Engineering in May 2016. His most recent role was as General Manager of Fiji Link – Fiji Airways’ domestic subsidiary. He has grown with Fiji Airways, having joined the airline in June 1989 and got his aircraft maintenance engineer’s license in July 1995. Thomas later became an aircraft maintenance supervisor in November 2001 and was promoted to Manager-Aircraft Maintenance in October 2006. He became General Manager Engineering in March 2008 before being appointed to Manage Fiji Link’s operations in January 2015. Thomas holds a diploma in business (aviation) and a certificate in airline management.

 

Captain Aaron Dean
Executive General Manager, Flight Operations and Chief Pilot

Captain Aaron Dean was appointed to the position in January 2017. One of Fiji’s very own aviation professionals, Captain Dean joined Fiji Airways as a First Officer on the B737 fleet in 2000, moving as a First Officer on the B747 in 2006. He transferred back to the B737 fleet as Captain in 2007 ,and was subsequently appointed B737 Fleet Captain in 2011. He was the pioneering Fleet Captain for the Airbus A330 when Fiji Airways first introduced this aircraft to its fleet in 2013. He is also a Check and Training Captain on the A330. Captain Dean has over 12,000 flight hours, has IATA qualifications in Safety Management Systems and University of Southern California qualifications in several aviation programmes.

 

Shalendra Nair
Executive General Manager, Revenue Performance

Shalen Nair joined Fiji Airways in 1996 and was appointed to his current role in February 2018. He works with the Chief Commercial Officer and is responsible for Revenue Management and Alliances. His role involves maximising revenue growth for the Fiji Airways Group and expanding the network through airline partnerships. During his career at Fiji Airways, Shalen has worked his way up in various roles within the Finance, Commercial and Strategy Departments. He holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of South Australia, and is also a product of the Fiji Airways’ Management Development Programme, from which he has a NZQA/ATTTO accredited National Diploma in Business (Aviation) and a Certificate of Management. He also holds a Diploma in Accounting Studies and Advanced Certificate in IT from University of the South Pacific (Fiji).

 

Peter Seares
General Counsel and Company Secretary

Peter was appointed General Counsel and Company Secretary of Fiji Airways in August 2016.  Prior to joining Fiji Airways, Peter practised law in Australia at a prominent international law firm in areas including banking & finance, commercial property, general corporate advisory and commercial litigation.  Peter also served two years as the Associate to the Honourable Justice Murphy, Justice of Appeal at the Supreme Court of Western Australia.

Peter holds the degrees of Bachelor of Laws (with distinction) and Bachelor of Arts (Asian Studies) from The University of Western Australia and is admitted as a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Western Australia, the Supreme Court of New South Wales, and the High Court of Fiji.  Peter is a member of the Aviation Law Association of Australia & New Zealand.

 

John Checketts
Executive General Manager, Network Planning & Strategy

John Checketts joined Fiji Airways in November 2018 as Executive General Manager Network Planning & Strategy.  Prior to joining Fiji Airways, John was Vice President Network Planning at JetBlue Airways.  During his 14-years with JetBlue, John spent time in Revenue Management and Financial Planning & Analysis before joining Network Planning in 2009.  

John holds a degree in Economics from the University of Utah and has extensive experience in airline economics, revenue & cost forecasting, and business case development.

 

Athil Narayan
Executive General Manager, Airports and Cargo

Athil was appointed to the role in January 2020. He was previously Senior General Manager Airport, and prior to that, General Manager for Fiji Link, our domestic subsidiary. He is responsible for all Airport Operations, Cargo Sales and Cargo Operations for Fiji Airways. A seasoned aviation and banking executive with experience in Fiji and New Zealand, Athil actually started his career as a Graduate Trainee with Fiji Airways in 1994. He has a Master’s Degree in Business and Technology from the University of New South Wales, majoring in Aviation Law, Airline Operations and Strategy; and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Management from the University of the South Pacific (Suva). Athil has held management positions at Fiji Airways, Galileo GDS systems, Telstra Clear and Freedom Air (NZ). He has senior management experience at Starwood Hotels (Denarau), ANZ, Westpac and Wormald Fire & Security.

Nazneen Gagrat
Executive General Manager, Alliances

Nazneen was appointed to this role in January 2020, and is responsible for driving value from our partner relationships as well as from our oneworld connect membership.  Prior to joining Fiji Airways, Nazneen headed the Alliances area at Jet Airways in India. Her 20+ year career span encompasses a cross-section of profiles in the aviation industry in various verticals such as Customer Relations, Loyalty Programme Management, Aircraft Leasing & Contracts, and extensively in Partnerships & Alliances. Nazneen holds a degree in Economics from the University of Mumbai and has extensive experience in offline network development, continuous process improvement and change management.

Watson Seeto
Senior General Manager, Inflight Supplies and Logistical

Appointed to the position in November 2016, Watson is responsible for all the Airports in the Fiji Airways network. He is also responsible for the Freight Department. Watson brings with him over 30 years of seasoned airline experience. Within Fiji Airways he has held various management roles in Airport Operations, Freight, as well as Sales & Marketing. Watson was instrumental in setting up the company’s operations in Hong Kong and other destinations. Watson has successfully filled the General Manager, Freight role for past 3 years and has a total of 8 years’ experience in the Freight department.

 

Sharun Ali
General Manager, Safety, Security & Quality

Sharun Ali was appointed Head of the Safety, Security & Quality in December 2013. With over 17 years of airline work experience, he has spent time with Cabin Operations and since 2008 as a Quality Auditor before moving in various manager roles with Fiji Airways' Safety, Security and Compliance Department. A fully trained IATA Operational Safety Auditor, Ali completed numerous IATA Safety & Quality courses attaining Diplomas in Airline Safety Management, Airline Quality Management, and Airline Operations. He also holds an MBA (General Management) and is currently pursuing a Masters in Quality Systems. He is also a graduate and Fellow of Leadership Fiji program.

 

Edwin Aisake
General Manager, Inflight Service Delivery

Edwin was appointed General Manager Inflight Service Delivery from 1st January 2015 and leads all aspects of inflight service delivery and strategic leadership for the Cabin Crew team. He joined the company in 2009 and previously held the role of Acting General Manager Human Resources. Edwin commenced his airline career in 2001 as a graduate trainee and held various positions in Flight Operations, Logistics, Training and Human Resources. He holds a degree in Management & Information Systems and an MBA from the University of the South Pacific, along with a Certificate in Airline Management.

 

Stuart Anderson
General Manager, Financial Control

Stuart Anderson joined Fiji Airways in May 2015. He is a qualified CIMA accountant (and holds a degree in Accountancy and Business Law) who has over 23 years aviation and its associated supply chain experience. Stuart has previously held senior finance positions at BAA plc and then Virgin Atlantic Airways for the past 12 years where and was most recently Financial Controller for the Group and its associated subsidiaries.

Stuart has extensive experience within aviation financial control environments, ranging from corporate reporting, management accounting, shared service center delivery, statutory accounting and business change management.

 

Peter Bale
General Manager, Fiji Link

Peter Bale has been with the national airline since 1994 and has been part of Fiji’s aviation industry since 1987. Starting as an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer, he worked his way up the ranks over the years to become General Manager Engineering and Maintenance. He was appointed General Manager Fiji Link in 2019. He is one of a select few engineers in the South Pacific who can certify most aircraft types currently in the Fiji Airways Group Fleet - from the DHC-6 Twin Otters to the A330s.

Pradeep Singh
General Manager, Operations Support

Pradeep joined the company in 1992 and his airline experience spans across Finance, Operations Support, Training, Airports and Business Solutions before being appointed to his current role as General Manager Operations Support in September 2015. He has held various senior managerial positions over his career to-date and previous to his current role ,was responsible for the company’s airline IT department as Acting GM IT. Pradeep has extensive experience within aviation, particularly Operations, which manages key focus areas of On Time Performance, external and internal Service Focus and Delivery.

 

Shane Hussein
General Manager, Corporate Communications

Shane joined Fiji Airways in August 2011 as Manager Public Relations and Communications, and was appointed General Manager Corporate Communications in May 2016. He is responsible for the Corporate Communications / Public Relations, Customer Care and Onboard Advertising & Content teams for the Fiji Airways Group. Shane has a 16-year career in journalism, media and public relations in Fiji and the Pacific. He holds a Professional Diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing (UK), a Postgraduate Diploma in Journalism and International Affairs and a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism and Management & Public Administration from the University of the South Pacific (Fiji).

 

Anna Morris
General Manager, Reservations and Service Culture

Anna was appointed to her new role in December 2019, after joining the airline in July 2015 as Manager Central Procurement. Anna is responsible for the Reservations functions as well as service culture development for the Group. Anna holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting & International Business from Auckland University, as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in International Business from Ecole Superierure De Commerce (France).

 

Owen Handyside
General Manager, Fiji Airport Services

Owen is responsible for the running of Fiji’s main airport hubs in Nadi and Nausori. He joined the reinvigorated Airports team in November in order to strengthen the Fiji Airports team and develop it as the ‘jewel in the crown.’ Owen joined Fiji Airways in July 2014 following an 18 year career in aviation spanning the areas of Ground Handling, Cabin Services, Cargo and Ramp Handling, Human Resources, Learning & Development and Safety Compliance. He has been instrumental in the setting up of our Singapore airport operations.

 

Christina Templin
General Manager, Marketing

Christina joined Fiji Airways as the Global Brand Manager in June 2016 and was appointed to the position of General Manager Global Marketing in early 2017 managing all Fiji Airways Marketing activities. Christina joined the airline from Digicel Pacific where she held the role of Regional Marketing Manager Asia Pacific, managing marketing activities across Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific, with a short stint in Myanmar. Christina has over 13 years of marketing experience in Traditional advertising, Digital and Social Media Marketing, Brand, and Events Management.

 

Nilesh Chand
General Manager, Revenue Management

Nilesh joined Fiji Airways in March 1999 with extensive background in Revenue Accounting, Pricing and Revenue Management. After gaining further airline experience heading up Air Vanuatu’s Revenue Management, Pricing and Scheduling, he returned to Fiji Airways and was appointed as General Manager Revenue Management on 01 September 2017.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of the South Pacific majoring in Accounting & Financial Management, and Management & Public Administration with a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration from the University of Fiji.

 

Narisha Karan
Group Financial Controller

Narisha joined Fiji Airways in 2016 as Manager Financial Planning and Analysis from accounting firm KPMG. Over a 10-year career, Narisha has progressed from graduate accountant at KPMG to her current role of Group Financial Controller for Fiji Airways. She was previously the airline’s General Manager Financial Control and Business Support. She is responsible for the Group’s Budgeting, Financial Analysis, Financial Reporting and Systems, Audit, Tax Compliance and Business Support. Narisha is Certified Chartered Accountant in Fiji, Australia and New Zealand. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting and Economics from the University of the South Pacific (Suva).

 

Barry Jewell
GM Global Cargo Sales

Barry Jewell, born in the United Kingdom, has 29 years of sales experience, 24 years within the cargo industry and joined Fiji Airways as General Manager Global Cargo Sales on 1st August 2019. He started his Sales career in the Financial Services industry with Equity & Law as a Sales Executive, progressing into senior sales roles along the way. He joined FedEx Express in 1995, and went on to lead its sales teams in the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia and the Pacific Islands. Barry holds a Diploma in Business Management. His main love in business is learning and coaching and his loves outside of work are horse racing and golf.

 

Akuila Batiweti
General Manager Fiji Airways Holidays

Akuila first joined Fiji Airways in July 2014 as the Manager Global Online Marketing with over 10 years of experience in Marketing, Ecommerce, Digital & Online Marketing, Sales and Branding. After over 2 years at Global BedBank Ltd, he joined Fiji Airways in January 2020 as the General Manager Fiji Airways Holidays. He was instrumental in the setup of key partnerships such as the one between Fiji Airways and Google. Akuila holds a Bachelor's Degree in Management and Finance from the University of the South Pacific (Suva). He was the winner of the Emerging Leader in Tourism Award at the 2018 Fiji Excellence in Tourism Awards.
