Fiji Airways Relaunches On-Board Duty Free Featuring World Leading and Truly Fijian Consumer Brands

Fiji Airways, Fiji’s National Airline, has signed a full concession service contract with Hong Kong based King Power Traveler (KPT) for the provision of an inflight Duty Free sales service onboard their entire international fleet. The decision was announced as part of a suite of changes introduced by the Fijian carrier to completely redesign its onboard customer experience.

Making the announcement in the Fijian Capital, Suva, today, Fiji Airways’ Managing Director and CEO Stefan Pichler commented: “Duty Free is a key focus area for us as a part of our onboard offering to customers. We embarked on a comprehensive and ambitious programme to upgrade what we currently offer as Duty Free on board and offer our guests access to world class Duty Free shopping in the sky. This means smart shopping on board for world leading consumer brands as well as known and truly Fijian brands.”

“We are very pleased to have chosen King Power Traveler (Hong Kong) to provide this for us, led by Rakhita Jayawardena, a world-renowned inflight retailer. KPT will to be working with us to re-launch and manage the Fiji Airways' inflight Duty Free retail service. The conclusion of this agreement with King Power Traveler is timely as it fits into our present strategy of quality product and passenger service enhancements.”

King Power Traveler President Rakhita Jayawardena said: “We are very pleased and honoured to have been selected by Fiji Airways as their partner and look forward to putting together a qualitative inflight retail product and service that will contribute towards enhanced passenger satisfaction and to incremental ancillary revenue streams of the airline.”

Mr. Pichler confirmed that selected Premium Fijian products will also be available for Duty Free purchase on board.

Fiji Airways headquartered in Nadi, Fiji is one of the largest airlines in the Pacific islands. The airline flies to destinations in Asia, the Pacific and USA including Hong Kong, Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Auckland, Christchurch, Port Vila in Vanuatu, Honiara in Solomon Islands, Samoa, Tonga, Kiribati, Hawaii and Los Angeles in the United States.

Fiji Airways’ fleet consists of modern Airbus and Boeing aircraft, including their flagship A330-200s, and B737-800’s, B737-700’s, ATR-72’s, ATR-42’s and DHC-6 Twin Otters. The airline plans to expand its fleet size with the purchase of four new aircraft, including one A330-200, two B737-800s and two ATR72-600s, by 2017.

The additional aircraft will support the airlines' plans to grow the number of available seats across all markets by more than a third, and an increase in its passenger numbers by approximately by 40%, over the next five years. Proposed capacity increases across the regions include Asia, Pacific Islands, New Zealand and Australia.
