Airline of Fiji Rugby

Suva, Fiji – Air Pacific and the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) today announced a new partnership naming the national carrier as the official airline of Fiji Rugby. The sponsorship agreement was signed in Suva today by the Fiji Rugby Union’s Acting Chief Executive Pio Bosco Tikoisuva and Air Pacific’s Managing Director and CEO Dave Pflieger. The new sponsorship will permit Fiji rugby teams and officials to use the comprehensive domestic and international networks of Air Pacific and its subsidiary Pacific Sun, to travel to locations in Fiji and around the region.

Mr. Pflieger said the national airline was honored to be associated with Fiji Rugby in this way. “We are excited about this partnership with the Fiji Rugby Union, and we look forward to assisting FRU and rugby in Fiji as it continues to grow and be a success in the future,” he stated. “In addition to being Fiji’s national carrier, Air Pacific has always been a strong supporter of Fiji rugby; thus, we are proud to be able to take this next step to become the official airline of Fiji national rugby and to directly support the “Flying Fijians” as they head off to New Zealand next week to represent the nation in the Rugby World Cup.”

Mr. Pflieger added that Air Pacific’s new FRU sponsorship will only further enhance its already strong support of local rugby clubs in the country. “As the official airline of Fiji Rugby, our support will make it possible for coaches, rugby development officials and referees to travel more easily and more widely across the country to officiate and assist with local matches. The ability to fly our domestic carrier Pacific Sun to Vanua Levu and the outer islands, will have undoubtedly have a positive effect that extends to all levels – Kaji, provincial, national and international matches hosted by FRU.”

The Fiji Rugby Union CEO, Pio Tikoisuva, thanked Air Pacific for its generous sponsorship and support.

“We are immensely proud with the long and cordial relationship we’ve had with Air Pacific for many years now, and we’re delighted that each year this relationship grows from strength to strength,” Tikoisuva said.

“With a sponsor like Air Pacific, we truly are the Flying Fijians and, like the Flying Fijians, Air Pacific is a homemade organization that more than holds its own on the international stage, which is something as a nation we can all be proud of.”
