The US Dollar ($USD) is used across all of the United States.
This includes note denominations of $100, $50, $20, $10, $5, $2, $1 and coins of 50¢, 25¢, 10¢, 5¢ and 1¢.
Tipping is not mandatory but largely expected across the US. The general rule of thumb is 10-20%, depending on the nature of the service and how satisfied you are. If the hotel porter carries your bags you might tip them $1 to $2 per bag. Take notice when travelling by taxis, they often add 30% as a tip, particularly if you are paying electronically.

Food and Drink

The USA is well known for their super-sized meals, so expect larger than expected portion sizes when eating out. Popular favourites include hamburgers, fried chicken, cheesecake, key lime pie and barbeque steak. Each State has a signature dish, so look out for fried green tomatoes in Alabama, peach pie in Georgia, corn dogs in Iowa, and barbeque ribs in Kansas.
Note: The legal drinking age varies from 18 to 21 years, depending on where you are in the USA. In some parts of the US, such as in Utah – drinking alcohol is prohibited.
Local drinks: Starbucks Venti Double Chocolate Chip Frappuccino, Bud Light and Jack Daniels on the rocks.
Local foods: Tater tots; side dish made from deep-fried, grated potatoes. Reuben Sandwich; hot sandwich served with corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and Russian or Thousand Island dressing, grilled between slices of rye bread.

110 to 120 volts AC and their plugs can be either 2 or 3 pins.

Due to its large land mass, the US has a varied topography, with the North-eastern coast consisting of flat coastal plains, southeast containing subtropical forests and the Midwest rolling hills.
Mount Whitney is the highest peak, sitting at 4,421 meters.

Given its vastness, the US is a great place to visit year-round, with a varied climate that changes from region to region.
December – April in the northern states are the coldest, experiencing freezing temperatures but are great for the thrill and adventure seekers with world class skiing and snowboarding resorts – Salt Lake City in Utah was the host of the 2002 Winter Olympics.  
If it’s warmer weather you seek, then the southernmost state of Miami, Florida might be your calling. With its distinctly Cuban charm, colourful art deco buildings, white sandy beaches and an average temperature of 25°C, if you’re into sport, sunshine or salsa – Miami sizzles all year round.
